These funds will support the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) to deal with the dire situation. Upon announcing the new support measure, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen stated: ‘Russia's aggressive war comes at a heavy and unreasonable price, not only for the Ukrainian people, but to the most vulnerable around the world as well. Russia is still blocking millions of tons of desperately needed grain. To help our partners, we will mobilise an additional 600 million euros to avoid a food crisis and an economic shock’. Along the same lines were the words spoken a day later by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the BRICS business forum in which he stressed that ‘The Ukrainian crisis is raising alarm bells for the world’, and that the sanctions in Russia are causing an economic disaster. The paradox is that the heads of the European and global economic mechanisms are trying to convince public opinion that the Russian-Ukrainian war is responsible for the high costs, energy and food crisis, as well as the economic instability. However, the numbers don’t lie and prove that this grim reality has prevailed for many years on the planet, considering that: • 193 MILLION PEOPLE IN 53 COUNTRIES ARE DEALING WITH ACUTE FOOD INSECURITY • 800 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE ON LESS THAN 1.9 DOLLARS A DAY • 124 MILLION PEOPLE SUFFER FROM ACUTE FAMINE • 2.1 BILLION PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL GOODS (SUCH AS CLEAN WATER) • 113 MILLION EUROPEANS ARE LIVING ON THE BORDERLINE OF POVERTY • THE GLOBAL DEBT WAS INCREASED TO 305 TRILLION DOLLARS IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS It is unthinkable for European and global institutions to pretend that they did not know of this chronic and alarming situation that prevails on our planet, but attribute it to the war that broke out a few months ago in Europe. Rather, they are trying to cover up the fact that everything mentioned above is the result of their own political mismanagement.
